License terms
Last updated October 1, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Elsewhen ("we", "us") about your use of the Elsewhen software ("Elsewhen"). By installing or using Elsewhen, you agree to them.
1. Trial
You can use Elsewhen free for 14 days to evaluate it. When the trial ends, Elsewhen becomes read-only: you can still open, read and export your projects, but editing needs a license.
2. Your license
When you buy Elsewhen, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to install and use it on up to 3 computers that you own or control at a time. You may use Elsewhen for any kind of writing, personal or commercial. A license is for one person. A business that wants several people to use Elsewhen needs a license for each of them.
3. Updates
Your license covers the version you bought and every update released within one year of your purchase. Versions released later need a renewal, which adds another year from the date you renew, or from the end of your current year if that hasn't passed yet. If you don't renew, Elsewhen keeps working on the last version your license covers, for as long as you like.
4. What you can't do
- Share, sell or publish your license key, or use it on more computers than your license allows.
- Copy, redistribute, rent or sublicense Elsewhen, or offer it as a service to others.
- Remove or get around the license checks.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or modify Elsewhen, except where the law allows it regardless of these terms.
5. Your work is yours
You own everything you create with Elsewhen: your manuscripts, codex entries and notes, and the maps, names and ideas the app generates for you. You may publish them, including in commercial books and products, without credit or royalties. We claim no rights over your work.
6. AI and other services
The AI features are optional and connect to services you choose (such as Anthropic, Google or OpenRouter) with your own account and key. Your use of those services is governed by their terms, and any fees are between you and them. AI output can be wrong, unoriginal or unsuitable. Review it before you rely on it or publish it. We aren't responsible for third-party services or what they produce.
7. Refunds and termination
Refunds are covered by our refund policy. If a purchase is refunded or charged back, the license ends and its key stops working. If you break these terms, we may end your license. Otherwise, your license lasts forever.
8. Keep backups
Elsewhen saves your work automatically and keeps rolling backups, but no software is perfect. Please keep your own copies of anything important, for example in a cloud folder or on an external drive.
9. No warranty
Elsewhen is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise that it will be error-free or uninterrupted.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or work, arising from your use of Elsewhen. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Elsewhen. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
11. General
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. If any part of them is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. We may update these terms for future versions. The terms in effect when you got a version apply to that version.
